Word descriptions and meanings in the rules

These meanings are for most rules. The office at the cemetery can help and explain if you need help.

Chapel attendant

The worker for the crematorium be at the chapel at the time of the funeral or service. They will be in their uniform.

Council

This means Southend-on-Sea City Council.

Cremation authority

The building in the grounds at Sutton Road is the crematorium. The building is fitted with appliances for the burning human remains. This includes the crematorium chapels and the crematorium grounds. It also includes other buildings which may now or later be built.

Crematorium supervisor

The worker that is in charge of Southend on Sea crematorium. They are appointed by the registrar. This includes the worker doing this job if the supervisor is not at work.

Medical referee

The registered medical practitioner (doctor). They will have at least five years as a medical doctor. They are appointed by the Secretary of State for the Home Office for this job.

Memorial chapel

The room in the crematorium that has the books of remembrance, the memorial panels, the memorial flowers and plants in. Other memorials may be in the chapel in the future.

Registrar

The person that is the Registrar of Cemeteries and Crematorium. This can include the worker that is doing this job if the registrar is not at work.

Service chapel

The areas at the crematorium building used for cremation and memorial services. The larger chapel (fits 100 seats) is called as the West Chapel. The smaller (fits 30 seats) is called the South Chapel.
