Cemetery regulations

Burials for member of different faiths

Reform Jewish Synagogue

The rules for the Reform Jewish Synagogue burials are:

  1. a minimum notice of 24 hours for the burial is needed. We might not be able to carry out a burial if we do not have the staff and time free to prepare for the burial
  2. applications to buy a grave should be given to the cemetery office. This should be done within 7 days from the date of the booking of the burial time

In all other ways burials should follow the normal rules of the cemetery.

Muslim faith

The following arrangements shall apply:

  1. a suitable area shall be reserved all of the time, at Sutton Road Cemetery, for Muslim burials
  2. in all other ways such burials shall follow the normal rules of the Council for the Cemetery
  3. burials without coffins are not allowed

Administration for the booking of a Muslim or Jewish Burial

  1. requests from a Funeral Director or family member for a Muslim burial will need to be given to the office. The office will need at least 24 hours prior to the funeral time
  2. if the burial can take place on the day of the request we need all information and paperwork by 10am on the same day. This needs to be on the right forms and should include the coffin sizes. After this time burials cannot be made on the same day

All burial times and date requests may take place if we have time and staff ready. We cannot always carry out same day, or 24 hour funerals.
