Southend Highway Flood Reduction and Resilience Improvement Scheme

The scheme will renew and upgrade gullies and the drainage networks in three hotspot areas that have suffered from more frequent surface water flooding, as identified in the asset management strategy. It will improve resilience and reduce the cost of damages and delays caused by extreme weather events. The three areas are within the city of Southend-on-Sea focussing on the Central Seafront area, Shoeburyness and access to London Southend Airport. These represent key locations for tourism, residential and business activity and all fall within Critical Drainage Areas, as identified In the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy.
