Reusable cloth nappies

Reusable vs disposable

In the UK around 8 million disposable nappies are thrown away each day. Research estimates that disposable nappies take at least 200 years to decompose, that means the potential environmental impact of disposable nappies willl continue for some time. Cloth nappies on the other hand have the benefit of not only being completely reusable but also better for your wallet!

Why use cloth nappies?

Cloth nappies are made from a comfortable natural materials such as cotton which is softer and more gentle next to your baby's skin compared to disposables which are made from super absorbent chemicals, paper-pulp and plastic.

Although cloth nappies may be a little less absorbent than disposables the feeling of wetness can help with bladder control, act as a stimulant and may help your baby become potty trained more easily.

Better for you

Taking into account the cost of washing cloth nappies, you could save up to £1000, as on average each baby can use between 4000 to 6000 disposable nappies or 25 to 30 birth to potty cloth nappies.

By using cloth nappies you will be reducing the impact on the environment. Even using just one cloth nappy a day could save 365 disposable nappies from being disposed of.

Cloth nappies are easy to use

Many cloth nappies look like disposable ones and come in a variety of colours and styles to choose from.

They are so easy to use as many now come with poppers and Velcro fastenings (no more sharp nappy pins).

How many cloth nappies will I need?

Depending on the type of cloth nappy you buy, a new-born will probably need between 18 to 24 nappies so you should be able to do a wash every other day. Babies older than 6 months should not need as many changes a day so 15 to 20 nappies should be sufficient.
