Adverse weather conditions - affected services
Southend-on-Sea City Council has urged residents to be mindful of their personal safety during the adverse weather conditions.
When heavy snow is forecasted and temperatures are set to be at freezing major disruption is expected across the county. Residents are urged not to make car journeys unless they are absolutely necessary and to monitor local radio bulletins to keep up to date with any school closures.
School closures
To keep informed of school closures residents should check with their childs school in the first instance. We will update our school closures section of the website as and when we are informed of any closures. Local radio station bulletins and websites will also out out this information.
Refuse and Recycling collection
Veolia are currently undertaking recycling and waste collections as usual.
Both Household Waste Recycling Centres are open as normal.
Gritting
We are responsible for salting and snow clearance of highways within the City and will ensure the major routes in and out of city and routes used by emergency vehicles are kept open. Please see our gritting section for more information. Waste and cleansing crews are currently being diverted to gritting duties while collection services are suspended.
Traffic monitoring cameras
View live traffic which provides images from 16 cameras at key sites across the City, showing whats happening on Southends streets. The image is refreshed every 5 minutes.
Bus and train services
