Southend-on-Sea City Council congratulates Southend Youth Council on their outstanding achievement in being shortlisted for the Community Engagement category of The MJ Achievement Awards 2025.

This well-deserved recognition highlights the remarkable efforts of Southend Youth Council, whose innovative support pack, created by and for neurodivergent young people, provides invaluable guidance to those supporting neurodivergent individuals in their lives.
With support from the Youth Voice team, the Youth Council empowers young people aged 11-18 to lead campaigns, influence decisions, and develop skills for life. Their neurodivergent support pack has been shared with students, teachers, and professionals across Southend, helping to improve understanding and support for neurodivergent teenagers.
This project is a great example of how young people can drive real change, making Southend a more inclusive and supportive community. The official launch was at a special event yesterday (Thursday 27 March), at The Forum.
Cllr Laurie Burton, cabinet member for children, young people and SEND, said: "Southend Youth Council's dedication to creating positive change is truly inspiring. Being shortlisted for this award is a testament to their hard work and commitment to making Southend a more inclusive and supportive place for neurodivergent young people. I am incredibly proud of their achievements and the impact they continue to make in our community."
In addition to this significant achievement, Southend-on-Sea City Council has also been commended for two other submissions:
- Southend-on-Sea's Community Investment Fund in the Delivering Better Outcomes category.
- Catchment to Coast: supporting communities to build flood and coastal resilience from source to sea in the Leadership in Responding to the Climate Emergency category
Being commended means that while these entries were not shortlisted as finalists, the judging panel felt they deserved recognition for their strength and impact.
The winners of The MJ Achievement Awards 2025 will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony on Friday 20 June 2025, at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge.
