Southend Libraries hosts literature, photography, and family history events

The Council is excited to announce two fascinating events as part of Southend Libraries’ 2025 schedule, catering to lovers of literature, photography, and family history.

Films of Sicily and Sardinia

Saturday 1 February, 1pm to 2.30pm
The Forum, Elmer Square

For those passionate about travel, photography, and the life and works of D.H. Lawrence, Southend Libraries presents a special event with Italian author Daniele Marzeddu.

Daniele will discuss his newly published dual-language book 'Films of Sicily and Sardinia, on the trail of D.H. Lawrence' and share his experiences creating the documentary 'Return to Sea and Sardinia', which retraces the iconic writer's journey. This unique event is perfect for adults, including English and Italian speakers, and there will be an opportunity to purchase signed copies of the book.

Tickets are free, but you'll need to reserve your place. They are available now via Eventbrite or from The Forum reception desk (call 01702 534111).

Family History drop-in session

Saturday 8 February, 10am to 2pm
The Forum, Elmer Square

If you're looking to explore your family tree, Southend Libraries' Family History drop-in session is the perfect starting point. Members of the Essex Society for Family History will be on hand to provide guidance, insight, and tips to help researchers of all levels uncover their roots.

This session is free to attend, just bring along any information you already have to kickstart your research.
