Grassroots Westcliff to help improve Westcliff Library’s outdoor green spaces

The Council is pleased to share exciting news about the upcoming improvements to the garden around Westcliff Library.

The Grassroots Westcliff volunteer group will be improving the garden areas surrounding Westcliff Library. The volunteers will focus on developing and maintaining the back garden and front beds, aiming to create a more enjoyable outdoor space for everyone.

The library serves as a hub for the local community, offering a wide range of resources, including books, digital media, and hosts a range of community events. It also features a sizable outdoor garden, which has great potential to become a vibrant and welcoming area for residents. With the efforts of Grassroots Westcliff, the garden will be transformed into a jungle themed space where people can relax, read, and participate in outdoor activities.

The project will involve planting a variety of flowers, shrubs, and ornamental grasses to add colour and biodiversity to the area. The project aims to create a sustainable and well-maintained green space that improves the overall experience of visiting the library.

Cllr Matt Dent, cabinet member for culture, tourism, and business, said: "I'm really excited about the improvements to the greenery around Westcliff Library. Grassroots Westcliff will undoubtedly transform the library's outdoor spaces into a sustainable and vibrant area, where people can relax and enjoy a good book. I'm looking forward to seeing the end results and the positive impact it will have on the local community."

Lisa Miller, committee secretary for Grassroots Westcliff, said: "We're really looking forward to starting the Library garden project. Anyone can volunteer and get involved as little or as much as they like with this, or any of our other projects in Westcliff. Members of the group are friendly local people who want to make a difference. Volunteers are not expected to have specialist gardening knowledge, just lots of enthusiasm and a willingness to muck in."

Anyone can volunteer and get involved as little or as much as they like during the weekend outdoor activities the group set up to improve the many green spaces in Westcliff.
