Southend-on-Sea City Council is proud to announce the Family Centres have been awarded the Baby Friendly Initiative Level 3 accreditation by UNICEF UK.
The Baby Friendly Initiative, is a global program by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, which aims to promote and support breastfeeding and infant feeding and improve standards of care for all mothers and babies.
Achieving level 3 accreditation is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the staff at Southend-on-Sea City Council's Family Centres, the Public Health Team and A Better Start Southend. This marks the first time the family centres have achieved this respected recognition, highlighting their commitment to providing exceptional support and care for mothers and babies.
The report stated that the service 'has met all of the criteria relating to Baby Friendly accreditation and the staff are commended for the efforts made. It was clear to the assessment team that information and support for pregnant women and new mothers is of a very high standard.'
Cllr Laurie Burton, cabinet member for children, young people, and SEND, said:"We are thrilled to receive the Baby Friendly Initiative Level 3 accreditation. This achievement highlights our commitment to supporting families and ensuring that every mother and baby receives the best possible care while visiting our centres and using our services."
Cllr Maxine Sadza, cabinet member for social care and healthier communities, added: "The accreditation reflects our commitment to ensuring that every child in Southend-on-Sea gets the best start in life. Our Public Health teams, Family Centres and A Better Start teams have worked tirelessly to meet the rigorous standards set by the Baby Friendly Initiative, and this recognition is a well-deserved acknowledgment of their efforts."
