Unique musical trio performs in Southend

Southend-on-Sea is set to host an exceptional musical event as the Korros Ensemble makes its debut performance in the city.

Three people dressed in black with a harp, flute and clarinet.

This unique trio, featuring a flute, clarinet, and harp, will perform on Friday 21 June at 8pm at the Civic Centre on Victoria Avenue.

Formed in 2001 during their studies at the Royal Academy of Music, the Korros Ensemble has captivated audiences with their fresh and original approach to chamber music. Known for their dynamic performances and lush sound, the trio creatively reworks beloved orchestral, chamber, and solo pieces, offering listeners a new way to experience classical music.

The ensemble has previously collaborated with Ballet Rambert and Pineapple Dance Studios and performed at renowned venues such as Tate Modern, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and the Örbyhus and Hudiksvall Festivals in Sweden. Individually, the musicians have played with major UK orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Britten Sinfonia, and have accompanied notable artists like Elton John, Beyoncé, Peter Gabriel, Andrea Bocelli, and Bette Midler.

The Southend concert will feature an eclectic programme with pieces by Scarlatti, Debussy, Elizabeth Poston, and Bizet, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Mark Harvey, executive director of adults and communities at the Council, said: "We are delighted to welcome the Korros Ensemble to Southend as part of our council concert series. This programme of popular music allows both residents and visitors to experience world-renowned performances without the need to travel to major cities.

"I encourage everyone to book early for this performance at the Civic Centre to ensure they don't miss out on the amazing musical talents of this highly regarded international ensemble."

Tickets are now on sale. The Civic Centre offers free parking after 6pm and is easily accessible via major bus routes and nearby Southend Victoria and Southend Central train stations.

The concert begins at 8pm, with tickets priced at £10. Tickets can be purchased online or by phone on 01702 215011, Monday to Friday, during office hours. Any remaining tickets will be available at the door on the night of the concert.
