Colin Ansell has been approved as the council’s new Chief Executive (Full Council, Monday 20 November).
The recommendation was made to Full Council by the Appointments and Disciplinary Committee who met on Thursday 16 November, following a comprehensive national recruitment and selection process.
Colin Ansell is currently Corporate Director of Adults, Health, Strategy and Change at Newham Council and has been with them since 1999. He has held various senior leadership roles in corporate services, performance improvement, finance, and adult social care. Colin was also interim Chief Executive from May 2022 to September 2023.
Colin Ansell said: “It is a huge honour to receive approval from Full Council and be appointed as the new Chief Executive of Southend-on-Sea City Council.
“I am excited to take on this role and as someone who is passionate about people, I look forward to getting started and making a real difference to the community of Southend-on-Sea.”
In a joint statement, Cllr Tony Cox, leader of the council and the Conservative group, Cllr Daniel Cowan, leader of the Labour Group, Cllr Paul Collins, leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, Cllr Martin Terry, Independent Group lead spokesperson, and Cllr Ron Woodley, Residents First Group spokesperson, said: “We are very pleased that Colin has been confirmed as our new Chief Executive.
“Colin showed real drive and energy throughout the recruitment process and a commitment to local government and public services. We are confident that he can do justice to this challenging role and look forward to working closely with him.”
Rob Tinlin will remain as Chief Executive until Colin Ansell takes up his post. A start date will be agreed in the coming weeks.
