Residents are being encouraged to use an interactive map which shows the exact location of all defibrillators in Southend-on-Sea.
Defibrillators are life-saving pieces of kit which help deliver an electric shock to the heart to get it back into normal rhythm when it stops beating or beats irregularly.
It means during a medical incident when a defibrillator is needed urgently, residents can check on the website and save precious time by locating the nearest defibrillator quickly.
Cllr James Moyies, cabinet member for public health, adult social care and constitutional affairs, said: “Defibrillators are an amazing medical advancement and can quite simply save a person's life.
“If more people are aware of the websites, so the devices can be registered and then maps used to find one in an emergency, then it could mean the difference between life and death.
Please keep the web address in your favourites - you will hopefully never have to use it, but at least it will be to hand if you need it.”
You can find the nearest defibrillator to you by using the Defib Finder website.
If you know the location of a defibrillator, it can be registered on The National Defibrillator Network.
