Housing and sustainability teams at Southend-on-Sea City Council have been recognised in this year’s shortlist for The Essex Housing Awards.
The teams have been shortlisted for a total of four awards, including two nominations for colleagues Ben Harrison and Faye Creasey in the Mo Slade Rising Star award, which aims to highlight a young person or apprentice who is making a significant contribution to a housing project or service.
In the entry submission, Ben Harrison, housing sustainability officer, is described as ‘a credit to the council and by extension a credit to the City of Southend’.
Whilst Faye Creasey, project and policy support officer and a mental health first aider, is described by colleagues as ‘an absolute legend’.
Cllr David Garston, cabinet member for housing and planning, said: “It is wonderful news that we have been shortlisted for four awards.
“It is particularly heartening to see two colleagues nominated for one of the new categories, the Mo Slade Rising Star award, for their hard work and contribution to the housing sector in Essex and Southend. They received many plaudits from their colleagues and have already achieved so much in their careers to date, I am sure whoever wins, the only way is up.”
The other awards shortlisted are:
- South Essex Construction Skills Academy (SECTA) for the Excellence in Construction Skills award - shortlisted for the second year in a row
- our decarbonisation and retrofit project in the Climate Action category
- and collaborative entry from acquisitions, private sector and resettlement project for the Meeting Housing Need award
Cllr Garston added: “There is no community, no towns, cities or villages without housing. It is a sector that is made up of so many different elements, yet all working to the same goal, providing safe, suitable, and comfortable housing for residents. Well done to all!”
The winners will be announced at an award ceremony in November.
