You’re invited to our free Priory Park Environmental Day!

Meet your Youth Council and Parks Team for a fun day of nature and wildflower planting at Priory Park, this half-term.

Southend-on-Sea Youth Council, the Parks Team, and Trust Links, invite you to join them for the free Priory Park Environmental Day, hosting a range of activities including nature walks, wildflower planting and more.

The Youth Council led project was proposed by Youth Council member, Noel Biju, to help tackle climate change and to provide a space for young people to promote positive health and well-being in the City. Noel approached the Council’s Parks Team to help develop and support the idea.

At the time of planning the special event the Youth Council wanted to showcase their lavender maze to the public, unfortunately vandals have destroyed the maze before the event could take place. However, the Youth Council are determined to restore the maze for all to enjoy.

Noel Biju, former youth council environmental officer and project lead for the maze, said: "I am devastated that something so helpful to the environment and to others could be destroyed. We will do everything in our power so that the maze will be regenerated."

Cllr Meg Davidson, deputy leader of the council, and cabinet member for environment, said: "Spring has sprung, and I am so pleased that the Youth Council and the Parks Team have made, and continue to make, a wonderful contribution to our environment in Southend.

“It is with the greatest sadness that we will not be able to experience the lavender maze in its completed form, and I absolutely condemn the behaviour of the vandals who have destroyed something so valuable to the park.

“With that said, I am confident that the event will still be marvellous, and I encourage all those who can to attend. Especially being half term, it’s a great opportunity to take your family and teach them about the importance of being environmentally friendly and get involved with some wildflower planting and fun activities.”

The free event special will take place on Wednesday 31 May and starts at the Priory Park main events field at 11am. Everyone is welcome!
