Southend-on-Sea City Council has been shortlisted for the Love Parks Award in Keep Britain Tidy’s local authority Network Awards 2023.

The Love Parks Award recognises the work the council undertook during Keep Britain Tidy’s Love Parks Week, which ran from the end of July through to the start of August this year. The council carried out a number of exciting events and projects for residents in our incredible parks and open spaces during the week, including guided butterfly tours in Gunners Park and litter picks across the seven Green Flag Award parks in the City.

Cllr Carole Mulroney, cabinet member for environment, culture and tourism, said: “Our parks and open spaces are tremendously important to residents and visitors, and I am delighted that their quality and importance is being recognised. Our Parks department has worked hard to maintain and uplift our parks and deserve a great deal of credit for their brilliant work, as well as the various groups who volunteer within these great spaces. To be nominated for the Love Parks Week Award 2023 is a great accolade for them all.

“Out of roughly one hundred entries that Keep Britain Tidy receives, just three local authorities are shortlisted in each category, so, the competition is tough and highlights the excellent work we do to keep our parks and open spaces clean, inviting and accessible for all.”

Keep Britain Tidy chief executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, said: “Our Network Awards celebrate the most innovative litter, waste and space solutions developed by local authorities, often with the incredible collaboration and contribution of residents. Our hope is that these fantastic initiatives will inspire others to do the same.”

The council will find out if they’ve won the Love Parks Week Award at Keep Britain Tidy’s local authority Network Awards that take place in Liverpool, Thursday 9 February 2023.
