Smokers urged to give quitting another go this No Smoking Day

Smokers considering ditching the cigarettes are being urged to get involved in National No Smoking Day Wednesday 9 March 2022, with around six out of 10 smokers wanting to quit.

Public Health Southend will be promoting ‘Today is the Day’ for the annual health awareness of national No Smoking Day. The aim is to raise awareness of support that is available in Southend-on-Sea, to any smoker who lives or works in the City.

The Stop Smoking Service can provide helpful advice and can signpost smokers to the most appropriate quit support pathway. Public Health Southend social media pages will be promoting the campaign and sharing support links such as the NHS Better Health, which offers online support and the NHS ‘Quit Smoking’ App.

Primary and Secondary healthcare professionals, including Pharmacies, participating in the Stop Smoking scheme, will be encouraging smoker patients to give quitting smoking another go. Smokers can book with their Practice Nurse or Health Care Assistant, Pharmacy Scheme, or walk-in to one of the listed stop smoking commissioned vape shops.

Cllr Anne Jones, cabinet member for communities and housing, said: “No Smoking Day gives a great opportunity for people to think about their smoking and what they would like to do about it. Around one in six adults in Southend smoke and we want to see as many smokers as possible make that positive health change and to quit.

“Many use this day as the start of a serious attempt to quit smoking, with many finding that it makes it much easier to embark on the challenge of stopping smoking. The three support pathways on offer provide a variety of methods to stop smoking and we encourage anybody considering a quit attempt to make an appointment and embrace the benefits of a smoke free future.”
