A colourful new installation is now confirmed as the ninth to feature in February’s light festival, Southend LuminoCity.
Created by local company Bright Lights, and sponsored by Southend BID, Scribble Trees will combine light and nature in a dazzling spectrum of colour.
Taking inspiration from the Neon Tree by Hawthorn - which was part of Winter Lights at Canary Wharf - the installation will be made up of 700 metres of energy efficient LED neon rope lights. Connecting the High Street to the seafront, the installation transforms Royal Square into a rainbow of colour as the lights adorn two trees. During the day they will glow gently, and at night the trees will come alive with a kaleidoscope of vibrant lights.
Cllr Carole Mulroney, cabinet member for environment, culture, tourism and planning, said: “Scribble Trees is an excellent addition to the incredible line up of installations as part of LuminoCity. The festival will offer something we haven’t seen in Southend before, and I am delighted that we have been able to increase the offering for residents and visitors. We urge everyone to come to Southend and see the city in a new light.”
Manager of Southend BID, Ashley Oglina-Beecham, said: “Southend BID is delighted that our sponsorship has supported a local company to bring another installation to Southend LuminoCity. This free festival will be an amazing, immersive event for all ages to enjoy, bringing thousands of visitors to our High Street and seafront. The increased footfall will of course be invaluable to local businesses.”
