Driving licence checks

Southend-on-Sea City Council has a responsibility to ensure that Licenced Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Drivers hold a suitable driving licence inline with our licencing conditions.

Southend-on-Sea City Council have a contract in place with Licence Bureau who will carry out a check of your driving licence no less than once every six months. Licence Bureau will report back any changes or concerns to the Hackney Carriage Office each time the driving licence checks take place.

As a licenced driver, or a new applicant to become a licenced driver, you are required to complete a declaration that Licence Bureau will send you to the email address you have provided the Hackney Carriage Office with to allow them to carry out the driving licence checks.

All licenced drivers and new applicants are required to do this, and this requirement will not be altered for individual cases as the process needs to be transparent and consistent to ensure it is effective and completed fairly.
