Paper and card collections - blue lid bin

What can I recycle in the blue lid bin?

Paper and card items you can put in your blue lid bin (or box) include:

  • newspapers
  • magazines and catalogues
  • leaflets and brochures
  • junk mail
  • envelopes - including ones with windows
  • white office paper
  • paper bags and packaging
  • wrapping paper (except foil lined or metallic)
  • soft backed books
  • cereal boxes
  • ready meal sleeves
  • kitchen and toilet roll tubes
  • cardboard boxes (please flatten and place large boxes next to the blue box)
  • corrugated cardboard
  • greetings cards (with glitter, metal and other non-paper decorations removed if applicable)
  • egg boxes
  • shredded paper (please only shred what you need i.e. personal identifiable information, rather than a whole letter. Contain it in an envelope or small box if you can to avoid shredded paper blowing away and/or place at the bottom of your bin)

What cannot be recycled in the blue lid bin?

The following paper and card items cannot go in your blue lid bin:

  • kitchen roll
  • tissues and wipes
  • heavily food-stained paper and card

What happens if we find other items in your blue lid bin?

If we find items other than paper and card in your blue lid bin (or box) we won't collect them. We'll also, usually, attach an educational hanger.

We will empty it on your next collection date, as long as you've removed the non-recyclable items.

The paper recycling plant can turn away entire loads when non-recyclable items are found. Recycling properly, all the time, helps to save costs and protect the environment.
