Undercliff Gardens Article 4 Directions

Usually minor developments do not need planning permission. But in Undercliff Gardens certain developments have resulted in unsuitable changes which have harmed local character, in particular views of the estuary from Grand Parade.

So the Undercliff Gardens Article 4 Directions were made by us in 1989 and 2006. You now need planning permission from us for the following development:

  • 28 -116 Undercliff Gardens and 120-124 Grand Parade
"The erection, construction, maintenance, improvement of a gate, fence, wall or other means of enclosure" (Part 2 Class A of the General permitted Development Order 1995).

  • 82 Undercliff Gardens only
"The provision within the curtilage of a dwelling house of any building or enclosure, swimming or other pool required for a purpose incidental to the enjoyment of the dwelling house as such, or the maintenance, improvement or other alteration of such a building or enclosure." (Part 1 Class E of the General permitted Development Order 1995).

Planning Applications required by an Article 4 Direction are free and Planning Application Forms can be downloaded.
