Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA)

Policy and Procedures for Undertaking and Use of Covert Human Intelligence Sources

The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) regulates the way in which investigations are carried out by public bodies. Its aim is to provide the correct balance between protecting an individual's rights to privacy and the proper use of data and surveillance to help carry out evidence gathering.

The policy and procedures document below clarifies the requirements that will need to be observed in order that the Council will neither contravene the legislation, Codes of Practice or other guidance issued by the Home Office or the Office of Surveillance Commissioners.
