Devolution for Southend-on-Sea
Being on the Devolution Priority Programme means we get devolved powers from central government sooner. We can set up a mayoral combined county authority for Greater Essex in April 2026 and hold mayoral elections for it in May 2026.
With devolved powers and more funding we will have:
- more control over transport and economic growth
- a greater say on where funding goes and investment tailored for local needs
- better infrastructure, the skills we need and proper strategic planning
The public consultation on the devolution proposals for Greater Essex is open for your views now.
