Who we are
The Southend Youth Justice Service (YJS) is made up of a group of people such as:
- Youth Justice Workers
- Police
- Health Professionals
- Probation Officers
- Volunteers
We work with children and young people aged between 10 and 18 years old to help them stay out of trouble and those:
- who have got into trouble with the law
- who almost got into trouble but did not go to court
What we do
We have different projects to help:
- local children
- young people
- families
These projects make sure each young person gets friendly help and support to go back to being part of their community.
We use a way of dealing with problems that helps young people understand the impact of what they did on others. This helps both the young person and the person who was affected by the actions.
We help young people change their behaviour by:
- encouraging good relationships
- responsibility
- making smart choices
- looking at what each young person is good at
- working with families, communities, and others to provide support
We also offer different programs to help young people:
- make good choices
- manage their feelings
- deal with tough situations
- to get help with things like using substances
- going to school
- taking care of their mental and physical health
