Higher risk buildings

A higher risk building has at least 7 storeys or is at least 18 metres in height (you should measure the height from the lowest ground level to the top of the floor surface of the top storey of the building) and either:

  • is a hospital or care home
  • has at least 2 residential units

If you want to work on a higher risk building, you need to apply directly to the Building Safety Regulator.

You should not submit an application to us, or use a private Approved Inspector to submit an Initial Notice.
