Adoption - stage two

Stage 2 (takes approximately 4 to 6 months)

Prospective Adopters Report (PAR) Assessment

During the assessment either your Adoption Advisor or a Social Worker will visit you at home to discuss why you want to adopt and the kind of children that you would best be able to care for. Together you will complete the Prospective Adopters Report (PAR) that will go to the Adoption Panel.

The Adoption Panel

The Adoption Panel includes social workers, adoptive parents, counsellors and advisors. They will discuss your PAR Report and will give their decision to the Agency Decision Maker.

Finding a suitable child or children

  1. When the Agency Decision Maker has approved your application, we will start looking for a suitable child or children for you. You can also start your own search by looking at Family Finding publications such as Be My Parent or Children Who Wait.
  2. When we have found a suitable child, we will provide you with all of the information that we have about the child. Photos and DVDs may be available at this stage. We will also discuss the child's specific needs and, together, we will decide if they are a suitable match.
  3. This match then goes back to the Adoption Panel for approval.
  4. Once the Adoption Panel have decided that this is the right match, we arrange a planning meeting to see how the child or children can be introduced to your family. This will include visiting the child in their foster carer's home, outings and visits by the child to your home.
